AFRICAN PERIOD
JUST
AFRICAN
Being an
African has been said in so many ways that we decide to just go with the flow.
They said
being an African you need to own your crown “the Afro”
Dress code
has to define you as an African.
Embody
yourself, have that skin, beauty, looks and the body.
Being the
dark skinned girl, I saw that as an opportunity to finally be called an African
I then
decided to do the big chop
L.A girl,
a shade darker
African
prints, beads, brands was all I could think off
I
inherited that look to perfection
I felt like the queen of the Sahara desert ,
mama Africa, the camagwini of Africa, African goddess just to name a few
Eyes
popped out every second as I stepped my standards on the African ground
Embracing
the fact that I defined the true meaning of an African.
Smiling,
staring shouting oh our African queen, you are a true definition of black is
beautiful.
You are
too much of an African NEH
Too much,
too much of an African was not the feedback I expected
So I
decided to loosen up a bit
8 inches
of Brazilian hair
Got my
nails did
My
eyebrows were on fleek
I even
changed my accent from but to but
Robots to
traffic lights
Champagne
darling was all I ordered,
I was thee
slay queen, the girl
Someone
then approached saying I kind of look like an African
My
response was I am African and he said but you don’t sound like one
So I said
you want me to be talking like this to show you that I am from Africa or what
Wow I kind
of looked like an African slay queen
You see
the problem is I don’t want to be too much of an African nor
Kinda
looked like an African queen
I just
wanted to be called an African
I then
realized that
African
equals identity
African
equals culture
African
equals history
African
equals being unique
African
equals being proud
African
equals respect
So whether
I decide to rock up with an afro or a Brazilian hair
I’m not
too much or kinda look like an African
I am an
African period.
