Dear Black Child

DEAR BLACK CHILD
Black is a word
A description of race
A color
A symbolic meaning of death
Oh dear black child

Are you a description of death?
Color, race
Does the black blood flows within your vein
Or it has just been taken in vein

Sons and daughters of the soil
Freedom we have obtained not
We the born frees
Rejoice for joy, noises from every corner of the street
Shouting freedom we obtained yet freedom we obtained not

Oh dear black child

We look down to the soil
Reflection of the footsteps of our ancestors
Shadow of grave, shadow of poverty
Reflects on us every single sunset
Freedom we obtained not

Is freedom an ownership or a title enforced within us
For sympathy or empathy?
Why have you lost the teachings of Steve Biko?
In order to remove the shackles of inferiority
One has to change thy mentality

Till when black child
We continue enforcing subjects to be taught in the language we borrowed
Ignorance of over 1000books written by black authors
Yet we brag in the manifestation of thy words
Oh Romeo Romeo why art though has forsaken me
We brag about being schooled about the Russian, European history
Why not be educated about the African history

Dear black child

It saddens me when I can’t speak my mother’s tongue
No one tries to correct me
Rather they whisper saying tis not my fault
When I speak broken English many burst into laughter
Shouting you need to work on your English
What a pity

Wake up oh black child
Come back from the slumber party of your ancestors
Mwana wevu yabanguba yakho yekuti uchangamuke
Usateedzera tsoka dzebafi

The vruuuu paaaz, driving fancy cars, building double stories
It is not a true definition of riches and success
Dear black child
Stay away from the Woolworths water
Don’t get me wrong
I don’t hate neither am I racist
All I want is the word freedom to be know literally
Not just a fantasy nor trend especially to an African child

Dear black child
